  • CAN A LICENSED PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR FROM ANOTHER STATE WORK A CASE IN OHIO?

Ohio has very strict regulations concerning private investigators from other states. Unfortunately, as of now, Ohio does not have any reciprocity agreements with other states, implying that it is not legal for an out-of-state private investigator to conduct an investigation in Ohio. However, there is still hope! Ohio licensed private investigators often go the extra mile to obtain a Louisiana license, which opens up ten other states that recognize Louisiana’s license through reciprocity. These ten states include Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, and Virginia. This legislation’s provisions allow Ohio-licensed private investigators to provide services in all these states, making it considerably more convenient for customers who need private investigation services within these locations. In short, if you require private investigator services and intend to operate in Ohio, a Louisiana license might be a worthwhile investment for any outside licensed private investigators.

  • DOES THE STATE OF OHIO REQUIRE PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR TO BE LICENSED?

The state of Ohio, in its quest to ensure the utmost security and protect the lives of its residents, has put in place a legal requirement that all security guards and private investigators in the state be registered with their respective companies and further licensed through the Private Investigator Security Guard Services (PISGS) before commencing any security duties or investigations. This move is aimed at regulating and standardizing the activities of security guards and private investigators in Ohio, thereby guaranteeing that only individuals who meet the requisite qualifications and possess the necessary training undertake these critical duties. As such, any security guard or private investigator operating in Ohio has to comply with these requirements to provide an added assurance and peace of mind to the people they are hired to protect. So, if you’re looking to work as a security guard or private investigator in Ohio, ensure you are registered and licensed through the PISGS.
